Tobacco Awareness Program (TAP)

 

 

WHO WE ARE

TAP is a local and state-wide known agency that travels to schools, businesses and other organizations giving lectures on the hazards of tobacco.

 

MISSION STATEMENT

To give students as well as adults the educational opportunity to know what the consequences can be by using tobacco products of any kind. To educate children and adults in the hazards of cigarette tobacco, secondhand smoke, smokeless tobacco and chewing tobacco. TAP teaches adult and adolescent facilitator classes in smoking cessation and provides free smoking cessation classes to those wanting to quit tobacco.

ONSLOW COUNTY MILESTONES TOWARD SMOKE-FREE AIR!

 

Onslow County Schools 100% tobacco-free as of July 2004!

Onslow Memorial Hospital will be 100% tobacco-free as of September 2008!

 

Governor Perdue signed House Bill 2, the smoking ban, into law. The law will be effective January 2, 2010!

 

OCTOBER IS HEALTHY LUNG MONTH

The time is always right to stop smoking.  At www.cancer.org, the American Cancer Society posts a detailed timeline on the health benefits of quitting smoking to include: 20 minutes after quitting: Your heart rate and blood pressure drops. 12 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal just to start the path toward a healthier lifestyle!

 

In conjunction with the Great American Smoke Out 2008, an air quality monitoring study was conducted at local eateries in Onslow County.
