APPROACH: Health Track

In keeping with CHIP's mission and vision to serve and involve people from all walks of life who live in Onslow County, Onslow CHIP is utilizing a health track approach to reach our goals. This health track approach utilizes a focused and complete range of services to all communities and residents of Onslow County to provide health education and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

HEALTH:  The health track focuses on the quality of life and health concerns of a specific geographic area, church community, workplace or other self-identified community.  Through partnerships and collaboration CHIP promotes healthy lifestyles through education and information.

"In Your Neighborhood" Community Information Fairs

"In your neighborhood" community information fairs are open to the public. By providing "in your neighborhood" health/informational fairs Onslow CHIP will model and promote healthy lifestyles along with other community partners. Families in targeted neighborhoods at-risk for sedentary lifestyles to include poor eating habits, lack of knowledge of local outlets for physical activity and subject to chronic disease(s) will be informed of no to low cost opportunities for families to continue to be physically active and ways to make changes to include more fruits/vegetables into their diets.

The health/informational fair may include health screenings conducted by professional clinical staff of Onslow County Health Department such as: Body Mass Index (BMI), Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, and Cholesterol. (CHIP can not guarantee which testing will be done at a specific event).

Onslow CHIP participates in Eat Smart, Move More NC. As part of a state-wide campaign to increase awareness of the Eat Smart, Move More…NC initiative and to work to combat the rising tide of obesity and overweight among North Carolinians, Onslow CHIP (Community Health Improvement Process) locally promotes Eat Smart, Move More…NC.

The Prevention Committee meets the second Thursday each month at 8:00 a.m. at the Onslow County Health Department, 612 College Street unless otherwise announced. Anyone interested in promoting a healthy lifestyle is welcome!
